Outhouse Races

The 90th Annual Pioneer Days is presented by Bowladium Family Fun Center.

Get ready for one of the wildest and most beloved traditions of Pioneer Days in Twentynine Palms—the Outhouse Races! This fan-favorite event returns to downtown on Friday, October 16, 2026, at 6:00 p.m., during our Oasis Lights festival, brining laughter, creativity, and community spirit to Freedom Plaza.

Teams from near and far will construct and decorate custom outhouses on wheels, then push, pull, and race them head-to-head down the street in pursuit of glory, bragging rights, one of the toilet seat trophies, and the coveted Golden Plunger Award.

Outhouse & Team Rules

  • Outhouses must have four sides, a roof, a doorway, and a toilet seat with a hole.
  • No motors or pedals—outhouses must be pushed or pulled.
  • Each team may have up to five (5) members, with one rider inside at all times.
  • Participants must be at least 13 years old (waiver required for ages 13-17).
  • Helmets are strongly recommended for safety.
  • Races will be run in heats, with winners advancing until a champion is crowned.

The racecourse stretches 250 feet down Smoketree Avenue, with each team racing down and back in their lane. Whether you're competing or cheering from the sidelines, this event guarantees non-stop fun, plenty of laughs, and a true display of Twentynine Palms' community spirit.
