Outhouse Races Return to Downtown Twentynine Palms for the 90th Annual Pioneer Days Celebration
The City of Twentynine Palms is bringing back one of the most beloved and anticipated traditions of Pioneer Days—the Outhouse Races—on Friday, October 16, 2026, as part of the 90th Annual Pioneer Days celebration.
Held in the heart of downtown Twentynine Palms, the Outhouse Races are a high-energy, laugh-filled community tradition that brings together teams from across the Morongo Basin and beyond. Participants put their creativity and teamwork to the test as they build, decorate, and race custom outhouses on wheels for the ultimate prize: bragging rights and the coveted toilet seat trophy.
This year’s Pioneer Days theme, “A Century in the Making: Celebrating 100 Years of the Old Schoolhouse,” invites participants to get creative and incorporate the theme into their outhouse designs.
The races will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, October 16, along Smoketree Avenue between Tumbleweed Drive and Paseo de Mara, next to Freedom Plaza. Check-in begins at 5:30 p.m. at the starting line, and participation is free. Teams must register by Friday, October 9, 2026.
