Visit 29 Palms Awards $193,000 in Event Funding to Drive Community Engagement and Attract Overnight Visitors

In January of 2024, Visit 29 Palms, the City of Twentynine Palms’ Tourism Business Improvement District (TBID), launched a new Sponsorship and Event Grant Program with the goal of driving community engagement, attracting overnight visitors, and supporting the city’s five key tourism destination pillars.

Backed by $200,000 in TBID funding, made possible by utilizing reserves, the TBID has allocated and awarded a significant amount of funding to support events this year, with the goal of cultivating a culture of self-sustainability and empowering event organizers to establish successful and financially viable events that will thrive independently in the years to come.

Following the close of the first open call for proposals in February, the TBID Advisory Board awarded a total of $60,150 in event funding across 11 events and ongoing programming scheduled to take place between the March to June period. Following the close of the second open call in April, the TBID Advisory Board awarded an additional $132,850 in funding support for 17 events scheduled to take place July – December 2024. In total, $193,000 has been awarded in support of 28 events and ongoing programming over the 10-month, March–December period. This includes everything from music festivals, film festivals, half marathons, rock climbing events and bouldering competitions, art festivals and studio tours, wellness weekends, comedy nights, and more!

This concludes the event grant and sponsorship funding cycle for the TBID’s 2023-2024 budget year. The program is anticipated to continue next year, with the next open call for event proposals planned for October 2024, pending the TBID’s annual reauthorization.
