Cyclists Conquer the Desert at the Joshua Tree 55
The Joshua Tree 55, presented by Visit 29 Palms, brought 185 cyclists from near and far to the scenic landscapes of the Mojave Desert for an unforgettable ride through Joshua Tree National Park and Twentynine Palms. The event, held on February 1, 2025, was a resounding success, celebrating fitness, adventure, and the breathtaking beauty of the high desert.
Before the ride, Twentynine Palms Mayor Steven Bilderain addressed cyclists, welcoming them back to Twentynine Palms for another journey through our beautiful desert landscape, and provided encouraging words before they set off.
Riders embarked on a 55-mile journey through iconic desert terrain, navigating challenging climbs and thrilling descents while taking in the stunning vistas of Joshua trees, rugged rock formations, and sweeping desert plains. The first riders arrived back at Knott’s Sky Park at 9:45AM, completing the course after an early 6:15AM start. With multiple SAG (support and gear) stops and on-course support, cyclists were able to enjoy the ride at their own pace, whether pushing for a personal best or simply savoring the experience.
After the ride, cyclists and supporters gathered at Knott’s Sky Park for a well-deserved meal catered by Louisiana Famous Fried Chicken, providing delicious post-ride fuel. They shared their experience with other riders and staff, expressing how much they enjoy and look forward to this ride every year.
“We’re thrilled with the turnout and the incredible energy of this year’s Joshua Tree 55,” said Community Events Coordinator Scott Clinkscales. “This event continues to highlight the beauty of our region while fostering a sense of community among cyclists of all levels.”
The Joshua Tree 55 continues to grow each year, drawing riders from as far away as Vermont, Washington, Texas, Canada, and beyond. As the event looks ahead to next year, organizers encourage cyclists to keep their eyes out for next year’s date and registration details.
