Bright Future Ahead for Luckie Park as Ballfield Light Project Begins

The City of Twentynine Palms is excited to announce the commencement of the Ballfield Light Project at Luckie Park, scheduled to begin within the next week. This initiative is part of our ongoing efforts to enhance community facilities and ensure the safety and quality of life for all residents and visitors.

Project Details

Work on the Ballfield Light Project will begin by July 31, starting with the closure of Luckie Avenue to through traffic. Residents and visitors to Luckie Park are advised to use the detour routes that will be provided. The Public Works Department will set up a temporary fencing laydown yard at the north end of Luckie Avenue to facilitate this work.

Qualite, a leading provider of lighting solutions contracted by the City, will be on-site starting August 7 to begin the demolition process. The new, advanced LED lighting poles are scheduled to arrive by August 26, with installation to follow immediately.

The project is anticipated to reach completion by October 1, 2024. During this period, sections of the sidewalk may be temporarily closed to ensure public safety.

Enhancements and Benefits

The current lighting system at Luckie Park, consisting of aging wooden poles and inefficient Nickel Metal Hallide fixtures, will be replaced with Qualite’s proprietary Q-LED light fixtures. These new fixtures will provide better lighting with fewer poles, significantly reducing operating costs and enhancing night-time visibility. Additionally, the LED technology offers a longer service life with minimal maintenance requirements, furthering our commitment to sustainable community development.

Community Impact

This upgrade will improve the usability and safety of the park, particularly during evening hours, allowing for extended sports and recreation activities. The City appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation during the construction phase and is committed to minimizing inconvenience.
