Wildlife, Wonder, and Community
The City of Twentynine Palms marked World Wildlife Day on Saturday, April 4, 2026, with a lively family-friendly celebration at the Twentynine Palms Community Center. The event welcomed more than 100 community members for a morning of wildlife education, conservation awareness, and hands-on activities for children and families.
Highlights of the day were the Learning Safaris presented by Pacific Animal Productions, which offered guests up-close encounters with a variety of rescued exotic animals, including a ferret, skunk, two ball pythons, a kookaburra, and a tegu. The interactive program gave attendees of all ages a rare opportunity to learn about wildlife conservation through direct animal experiences. Some attendees even got to show off their best kookaburra laugh!
“World Wildlife Day is a wonderful reminder of the incredible natural world we’re fortunate to call our backyard here in Twentynine Palms,” said Community Events Coordinator Scott Clinkscales. “Seeing our community come together — families, kids, conservation organizations, and wildlife enthusiasts — to learn about and celebrate wildlife is exactly what these events are all about. We’re grateful to Pacific Animal Productions, all of our vendors, and our generous sponsors for making it such a memorable day.”
The event also featured vendor booths from leading local conservation and wildlife organizations, offering educational information, hands-on arts and crafts activities, and resources focused on the unique desert environment of the greater Joshua Tree region. Participating organizations included:
- 760 Snake Club
- Friends of the Big Morongo Canyon Preserve
- Joshua Tree National Park Association
- Joshua Tree No-Kill Shelter
- Twentynine Palms Historical Society
- The Wildlands Conservancy’s Whitewater Preserve
The City extends its sincere gratitude to event sponsors 29 Palms Creative Center and Libby’s Realty, whose generous support made the celebration possible.
World Wildlife Day, recognized annually on March 3, celebrates the world’s wild animals and plants and raises awareness of the many benefits that conservation provides to people. The City of Twentynine Palms is proud to honor this occasion by connecting residents with the extraordinary wildlife and natural landscapes of the Mojave Desert.
