Public Input Sought on Equity and Social Justice Issues

TWENTYNINE PALMS, CA – The public is encouraged to provide feedback on local access to food, housing and other quality of life markers at a meeting on Thursday, January 12, 2023, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Patriotic Hall, 5885 Luckie Ave, to help the City of Twentynine Palms develop an Equity and Social Justice Element for its General Plan.

The meeting will also center on local availability of education, healthcare, transportation and public services. All input, experiences and recommendations will be recorded and carefully considered as part of the draft General Plan Element.

“This meeting is the next step in a year-long process to ensure all our residents have opportunities to thrive and succeed,” Mayor McArthur Wright said. “We are looking forward to hearing from residents on these important issues as we continue to push for a safe, healthy community for all.”

After passage of the Fall 2021 resolution denouncing racism and xenophobia, the City formed a General Plan Advisory Committee to guide development of the new Element. In addition to two public workshops held this summer, the Committee recommended holding a public meeting to collect additional community input.

The City’s General Plan is a policy document that establishes a long-term vision and consistent direction for city policy and future development.
