Registration Now Open for Third Session of Walk With Ease Program
Twentynine Palms Parks & Recreation Department invites community members to take steps toward better health as registration is now open for the third session of the Walk With Ease program, running May 4th - June 4th.
The Walk With Ease (WWE) program will be led by certified instructors and offered three times per week for five weeks at Patriotic Hall. Participants will meet Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Participation is free, but pre-registration is required by calling the Parks & Recreation Office at 760-367-7562 ext. 1021.
Developed by the Arthritis Foundation, Walk With Ease is a nationally recognized program designed to help participants safely increase physical activity through guided walking and health education. Research from the Thurston Arthritis Research Center and the Institute on Aging at the University of North Carolina shows the program can reduce pain, improve balance and strength, and increase overall physical activity.
The program is made possible through a grant from the National Recreation and Park Association with funding support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention through the SHAPR 5.0 initiative. Twentynine Palms is one of 31 agencies nationwide selected to offer the program.
"We've seen participants make remarkable strides in their overall health and wellness through the Walk with Ease program," said instructor Amy Tessier. "Many report feeling stronger, experiencing fewer aches and pains, breathing more easily, and noticing a better fit in their clothing. Just as importantly, the uplifting social atmosphere has contributed to an overall boost in mood for everyone involved."
