The Sheephole Valley Wilderness consists of 186,673 acres of the Sheep Hole Valley and the surrounding 4,500-foot Sheep Hole and 3,500-foot Calumet Mountains ranges. The valley floor at approximately 2,000 feet elevation contains dry lake beds, sand dune formations, and a high desert creosote and scrub habitat. The Wilderness is less than an hour's drive east of Twentynine Palms on Highway 62.

The United States Congress designated the Sheephole Valley Wilderness in 1994 and it now has a total of 186,673 acres. All of this wilderness is located in California and is managed by the Bureau of Land Management. The Sheephole Valley Wilderness is bordered by the Joshua Tree Wilderness to the south.
