2011 Mayor Jim Harris

Welcome to the City of Twentynine Palms, California. We invite you to explore our Website and learn more about our desert community, its government, civic services, economic development, recreational opportunities, and cultural amenities. Our goal is to provide timely online access to City matters and resources for residents, visitors, businesses, and others who are seeking information about our community.

For your convenience, agendas, minutes, and staff reports for City Council and Planning Commission meetings are available online, along with public notices, bid notices, and City news releases. We also offer frequently requested permit applications from our Community Development Department, plus online Business License renewals and online registration for Recreation Department sports and activities.

The City of Twentynine Palms, incorporated in 1987, is home to 30,000+ residents and is located in the Morongo Basin on the southern edge of the Mojave Desert, roughly 50 miles north of Palm Springs. We have an active Public Arts Program and world-class Oasis of Murals, 300+ days of sunshine a year, brilliant starry night skies, well-maintained parks and recreational facilities, abundant natural and cultural amenities, reasonably priced housing, and ample lodging for tourists.

Twentynine Palms is the gateway to Joshua Tree National Park and home to its park Headquarters and Oasis Visitor Center. The park’s scenic 800,000 acres border Twentynine Palms to the south, where 1.4 million visitors come each year to experience the monolithic rock formations, ancient Joshua trees, abundant wildflowers and wild life, two desert eco-systems, rock climbing, hiking, and camping.

The City's neighbor to the north is the world’s largest Marine Corps training base, the 932-square-mile Marine Air Ground Task Force Training Command, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms. Besides providing a site for outstanding desert warfare training, MCAGCC provides economic support for the community and civilian employment for many residents of Twentynine Palms.

As the Mayor of Twentynine Palms, I look forward to the challenges we will face in 2011. The City Council will hire a new City Manager and endorse a new General Plan that will guide us into the future. Our City is economically sound, and we will strive to keep it that way. I will keep our relationship with the Marine Corps Base, the Joshua Tree National Park, the Town of Yucca Valley along with our State and County representatives strong. I encourage our Citizens and Visitors to attend the City Council Meetings where their input is vital to the future of our Great City. I hope to see you at City Hall.

Please let us know if we can assist you or answer any questions. Feel free to contact me or our City Staff by phone (760)367-6799, by email: info(at)ci.twentynine-palms.ca.us, or by personal visit to City Hall at 6136 Adobe Road.
