THE GENERAL PLAN ADVISORY COMMITTEE (GPAC) HELD ITS FINAL MEETING ON MAY 23, 2011.

The GPAC's final comments and recommendations have now gone to the planning firm Hogle-Ireland Inc. for processing, then will be reviewed by the City of Twentynine Palms Planning Commission and City Council.

General Plan Update

In January 2009, the Twentynine Palms City Council approved a contract for a comprehensive General Plan Update to be performed by the planning firm Hogle-Ireland, Inc., in conjunction with the City's Community Development Department, Planning Commission, and City Council. On May 12, 2009, a General Plan Advisory Committee (GPAC) was appointed to provide public input and assist in the General Plan Update process. Originally the General Plan Update was due by November 2010. At a Joint Special Meeting on Jan. 31, 2011, the City Council granted an extension of time to the GPAC until May 31, 2011, to continue their review of the General Plan Update and related EIR and technical reports for accuracy and consistency. The final General Plan Update documents will be delayed accordingly and possibly due by summer/fall 2011.

General Plan Update Website

An official General Plan Update web site containing background materials, reports, schedules, documents and information related to the General Plan Update was launched by the planning firm Hogle-Ireland Inc. for the City of Twentynine Palms in June 2009. A "Community Survey" is also available on the site, where interested individuals can express their opinions about Twentynine Palms and what they see as issues facing the City's future. www.29palmsgeneralplan.com

Downtown Specific Plan

The City of Twentynine Palms Downtown Economic Revitalization Specific Plan, completed in December 2009 by PMC Inc., was conceptually approved by the City Council and will be incorporated into the comprehensive General Plan Update currently being undertaken in 2009-2011. Community Trails Plan

The Twentynine Palms Community Trails Plan is an important part of the ongoing work, research, and citizen input connected to the General Plan Update process in 2009-2010. Facilitated by the City of Twentynine Palms Community Services Department, the Morongo Basin Open Space Group, and the National Park Service Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance Program, the effort includes public workshops, study sessions, field trips, work groups, suggested trails and planning input from local Pedestrian, Cyclist, Equestrian, and OHV user groups.
